T420 comparison

#1 Post by charliemarquez » Mon Feb 06, 2012 1:49 pm

Hi,

I want to buy a T420 because I think that would be the perfect laptop for my needs.
However, I'm trying to save as much money as I can.
I found two second hand T420:

Lenovo ThinkPad T420 4236 - 14" - Core i7 2620M - 1600x900 - 4 GB RAM - 500 GB HDD
Price 1 263$
Lenovo ThinkPad T420 i5 2520, 4GB, 1366x768 , 160 GB (no SSD) HD
Price 853 $
The two of them are mint-condition, also the same warranty
Are the specs of the first one worth to spend 400$ more?

Thanks in advance

I would say that out of those two, yes it would be worth it to get the more expensive system. That is based on the screen alone, and not because of the hard drive or processor. Maybe you could find another one with specs like choice two but with the 1600x900.

Go for 1600x900; a week ago I bought a T400 with 1280x800 (107DPI); I have used it for 4 days and put it away, and returned to my (good old) 14" SXGA+ T60 (1400x1050 , 124DPI). I thought WXGA it would be ok for me, too bad - it isn't. The fineness of the display it's nowhere near, mind the losed 250 vertical lines. So, my advice is to go with HD+ display. Or look for a T420 HD+ with i5, for a better price.
T430 · i7-3632QM · 12GB RAM · 512GB SSD · HD+ · NVIDIA NVS 5400M · H5321gw
T420s · i5-2520M · 12GB RAM · 480GB SSD · HD+ · HD3000 · F5521gw
T60 · T2500 · 3GB RAM · 128GB SSD · 14.1 SXGA+ · 128MB ATI X1400
Past: T400, T41, T22, 600X, 390X

A very, very solid piece of advice here. I concur.

Happy shopping.
