A quick search pulled up this thread which recommends at least a 135 or 170 watt power adapter: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... on#p653700

However, if I am only planning to drive a 24" external monitor, is the extra wattage necessary for the quad core? Or may I safely save a significant amount of money by going with the ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 which includes a 90 watt adapter.

In any case, I can't wait for the upgrade from my T61.

Best,

Chad

Have your purchased the notebook or no?

The adapter will be required because of the extra power the CPU requires I believe. Also, if you get the dedicated graphics card, 90 Watt would be the bare minimum IIRC. The 135 watt adapter might be required by that as far as I know as well.

If you use a lower wattage adapter, the computer will clock itself back and consume less energy, but at the price of performance.

Hope this helps :)

I have purchased the laptop; however, I am still researching the dock.

Also...from what I've read and what the sales rep said, if you want a quadcore, you must also get the Nvidia GPU -- but it can be powered off if power consumption is a concern.

Cheers!
