T400 screen brightness/contrast "flicker"

So I've tried searching for posts on this issue here and on other forums, and I haven't found any answers that I feel are exactly relative to my particular problem.

I've been noticing lately that my display (T400, WXGA LED, switchable graphics) will begin to "flicker" slightly during general use--web browsing, word processing, and the like. It's not that the display itself is actually flickering, but it's like the brightness or contrast settings for the screen are being changed very slightly (and not the overall brightness of the LEDs). It's incredibly subtle, and for the longest time I thought my eyes were just playing some sort of weird tricks on me. It seems to happen on both the integrated and discrete graphics chipset, which are running the latest (Feb. 2012) drivers; I have Catalyst 11.8 drivers installed on top of that on the discrete side. It's also present whether on battery or AC, and I don't have any sort of dynamic brightness settings enabled in the controls for either graphics option. Oh, and Win7 x64.

This issue seems to happen regardless of if I'm typing, letting the machine just sit, have the screen at different angles, etc. I feel like the problem only happens if I resume the device after it's been asleep for a while, such as overnight. Restarting may alleviate the issue some--I haven't tested thoroughly enough yet--but it does seem to function better if I shut it down for a time and then turn it back on.

Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? Is this something I should be concerned about, such as an indication of impending screen failure? Any information at all will be very helpful, thanks.
