my computer is T420 4180
meet with the same problem
i have tried uninstall, reinstall the drivers and different operation systems and no change happened.
lenovo's supporter has replaced the whole key borard (include the trackpoint), but the problem persists.
I have called the lenovo support center to check my T420 for the 3rd time and see what will happen.

Re: W520 - Can't Switch to Trackpoint
hello and welcome to the forum..
first, you posted in the wrong forum..
this should be in the ThinkPad T4x0/T5x0 Series forum..
and i have moved it there..
second, you need to explain exactly what your problem is..
you don't say what it is you want.. touchpad only or trackpoint only or both..
from my experience, limited as it is with the newer lenovo made thinkpads, if the hardware is working then it was always possible to disable the touchpad, or trackpoint, if i was so inclined..
so if lenovo replaced the keyboard and you have reinstalled the OS to factory fresh state then it MUST be the touchpad or other hardware problems.. or operator error..
i assume that you have changed the bios settings to what you want..

Re: T420 - Can't Switch to Trackpoint
Thanks.
Though my computer is t420 and the board i posted was w520, but the problem was totally the same.
I think it's a common problem for thinkpad.
For this problem, lenovo engineer just called me, he guess this problem is caused by some hardware under the touchpad, some part of the circuit is short-circuit.
He is coming to replace the short-circuit part to see if the problem can be solved.
I will update the process after his repair.
Hope this is useful for people who meet the same problem.
