Thinkpad T520 - Create Restore Disk on different drive

When I got my T520, I created recovery disks and installed my SSD as my primary drive. Because of the limited space of my SSD (120gb), I freed up the space of the recovery partition.

My reasoning is this: I haven't wiped or touched the drive my T520 came with. Since my Ultrabay has arrived, I placed my original drive in my laptop. Windows recognizes this drive and sees the recovery partition, but when I double click on it or use the Thinkvantage tool, it says it cannot find the original files or whatever.

Is there a way to point this program in the right direction? This is just in the event that I lose the disks or something...I do not plan on losing my hard drive :P

Thanks!

hi there

Ultra Bay Drive - (with orginal drive)...
There are number of options etc for the "FACTORY DRIVE"..
>Well seems with SSD you machine is now showing the TRUE SPEED of T520 specs....so I generally "store" these on shelf - and buy a new (often cheaper) larger hard drive - mainly for data storage etc ,,, so my first suggestion is to store these drives.
>> 2nd choice would be to CREATE RESTORE Cd/Dvd (with/from SSD) That way you can use those for future 'recovery'...on a newer SSD...
>>>3rd option can be that you would 'change setup' in BIOS to BOOT FROM ULTRA BAY DRIVE
That way TVT apps (R&R) will see it as 'normal drve' and you will be able to -reinstall 'as shipped OS' to that laptop. But often pple end up making a mess of these partitions by doing something to them via windows - which R&R app doesnt like (as it often reads that partition in DOS/LINUX MODE)

Generally I dont 'mess' with the recovery partitions on Factory drives (apart from CLONE them to newer drives) which also makes THINKVANTAGE RECOVERY apps - see and read them easily.

Since you have spent good money on the ultrabay adaptor - I would buy a cheap HD - often you can get 500GB for approx80$ (yip even now!!)- often I buy the openbox/referb ones from newegg ,,,, they never let me down yet !!

Hope this helps
Cheers
