Microphone connection for T510

Hi,

I am trying to connect an audio input to the microphone connector of my T510. But I can't seem to get any input. My understanding is that the mike/audio input goes to pins 3 and 4 of the 4 pin 3.5mm plug. Is that correct? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
b

uhmm, are you sure you're using the correct type of plug..?

if it were me with this problem i would try a standard mic and run voice recorder to be sure everything is working and THEN go back to whatever else it is you are wanting to connect to the mic/audio in jack..

i recently ran a mic and voice recorder for about 10 days and the mic i used has a 2 "pin" plug on it..
so my thinking is you might be using a plug that is not contacting the correct pins in the mic socket..

Thank you for the reply. I was relying on this for the pinout:
http://pinoutsguide.com/HeadsetsHeadpho ... nout.shtml
(1 tip - left, 2 ring 1 - right, 3 ring 2 - common, 4 barrel - microphone)

Pinout confirmed here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-a ... 535#M38026

If that is correct, it would seem impossible to use a mike with a normal 3 pole 3.5mm plug, because pin 4 would be shorted to pin 3.

I have tried a mike with sound recorder, no joy.

Bill

The pinout is identical to the pinout on modern smartphones. See below:

Try a Blackberry or iPhone hands-free headset, if you have access to one, and see if one of those works as expected. I suspect it will, which means that your other device is not making the connections you thought it was making ...
