Flash update causing problems with volume buttons

My volume buttons (mute toggle, volume up/down) stopped working whenever flashplayer is running after installing an update today.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, how can it be fixed?

I've downloaded an archived version and reinstalled using the older version (from April) but I hear there were security issues with it. It works now but I'm still curious if there's a way to fix it without having to rollback the version.

It might just be me but I feel like we are in fact getting beta versions of Flash with each new release

Flash leaves a lot of something to be desired!
