T500 boot error, Error 0x00000007B

#1 Post by Tesla » Fri Jun 29, 2012 2:52 am

I went into the BIOS to disable the boot password but somehow upon exiting I have not been able to boot!

I got the blue screen of death with this error. 0x00000007B

I have since reformatted the disk and loaded the 3 disc recovery set (Rescue and Recovery 4)
It all seems to load OK but I still get the blue screen upon boot.

So I did the HDD test in the BIOS, all OK, reloaded the recovery, same problem

So thinking it was the drive I then put in another one, a 500GB one I had in my Mac laptop, formated it with a disc utility and reloaded the recovery set.
Again, all seemed to load OK, but it won't boot, same screen.

So I then pulled the original drive out and put it into an enclosure and formatted it using my Mac using FAT32, I then tested reading/writing to to and its OK, so put it back in the T500, ran recovery again, same problem. I didn't try setting it up to boot from however.

Is this a problem with the onboard HDD controller? Surely it can't be a boot sector problem on 2 different discs.

Any help or tips to try would be greatly appreciated. - Thank you

If you install WinXP, check the SATA mode in the BIOS. It must be "compatible" (not AHCI),
see here.
