not sure about the bandwidth, but the port is mpcie not msata (it's the same connector but not the same protocol)
you could install an mpcie SSD like the corestore mv from supertalent (i'm looking into getting one myself right now)

In new TP (and others) you install mSATA drive into MiniPCI port. If i good remember you should get 220/240 write/read

The T420/T520, W520, Edge E420/E520 models and later all have the mSATA. Anything older would have to use the mini pcie. What model are you using?
