Thinkpad T410 battery charging.

#1 Post by sylvanrydes » Fri Jul 20, 2012 12:02 pm

Hi All-

I had dropped my thinkpad T410i last month. I had no problem using it after that.

But last week, there started a weird problem. The charger does not charge battery. Sometimes the charger starts charging the battery. The battery holds charge well. But I have to try too much to charge the battery. It seems to be a loose connection or something not working well. The battery charger works with only certain power outlets.

I am planning to open my thinkpad this weekend as it is already out of warranty. I could use a couple of suggestions from the experts here. I will appreciate any solution for this problem.

Thanks in advance for all your valuable inputs.
Sylvan.

Do you have another power adapter to try to rule that out?

Was the charger plugged in when it was dropped? If so, it is likely a busted power jack. Replacement jacks are cheap (part # 45M2893) and include the cable to attach to the system board. The plastic case could be cracked where the jack is held, requiring some sort of epoxy to hold it in place.

Yes. Try to check for another battery adapter as this might be a lose connection. it happened on mine as well but found out that replacing the jack solved the issue.
