Is it possible to retrofit a fingerprint reader? I searched on here and someone said it was possible with another (older) machine.

I have a T420 running Win7.

If possible, where would I source the parts?

Cheers.

Your idea is right, but it is the wrong piece on eBay. That one is from a T420s. The part is different

Okay thanks, I thought there would be no difference with the 's' model, I'll lookout for the 420 version.

So, if I bought this and this

Would I need a data cable to connect the FP reader to the main-board somewhere? or would the fingerprint module clip into an existing bus?

*edit* Or, is this the exact thing I need?

Thanks :)

The assembly is not correct. It is for a T420, not a T420s. I don't know about the first 2, but my guess is no. Some of the chinese plastic only also don't have the touchpad electronics. I would need to see a photo of the back. The fingerprint cable on most models (I don't have a T420s to look at) is connected off a "Y" to the palmrest. My guess is that the cable you have doesn't have a "Y" and I would need to examine it to know what you need. Sorry.

I think you need this:

Thanks, but I need 420, not 420s!
I'll have a look at the cable in mine.

Sorry. Even if you have the cable, you need to see a back picture of the first item. If it doesn't have the touchpad electronics, you need that also. The existing one on yours is REALLY difficult to remove without damaging it. They are glued into place.
