Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
Hi folks,
came across the apparently-new Rapidboot HA software on the lenovo website. Anyone tried it, and/or know what it does?

thanks!

Do we know what "HA" stands for ?
How is this different from RapidBoot Shield (which is a complete dud, IME)?

Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
Ohh, I just found out that HA stand for HDD Accelerator. Of course !!
Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
According to the links above, RapidBoot Shield "protects" your OS from slow boots by user-installed software and the like. My guess is that it just watches the progs added to the startup locations, as well as the services. It probably sets a number of "Auto" services to "Auto-delayed", which doesn't help much IMHO.uberT wrote:Do we know what "HA" stands for ?

The HDD Accelerator purports to compress boot files on your HDD, and then expands them into RAM upon system boot. This lets the HDD load boot files with fewer reads, according to Lenovo, since the HDD is reading compressed files and expanding them into RAM. The system then reads the boot files off of RAM.
I installed it - let's see if there's a noticable difference.
Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
Albo, thanks for the run down on all of that.
I installed it too. I'll leave it for a couple weeks and see what happens. The "RapidBoot Shield" slowed my start up times...which are incredibly long

@albo & uberT...
Are either of you running SSDs? Some discussions over on Lenovo forums suggest that HDD Accelerator should not be used on them, and that the Shield does help them either.

Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
no SSD here, and yeah, the compressing/decompressing scheme wouldn't make sense with an SSD. However, the rapidboot shield, while I don't think i'd ever install it, should still do something for SSD-equipped systems as far as my understanding goes.
Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
No, the drive in my machine is the standard issue 7200 rpm.
This HDD Accelerator seems like the real deal. It has shaved ~ 45 seconds from my painfully slow boot process

Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
WOW! I installed this little utility on my T61 (WIN7, 4GB RAM) and I'm to the desktop in about 1min 20sec and the computer is useable about 15 seconds later! Most impressive
Re: Rapidboot HA - what's it do?
hi
I can not English ...
I downloaded the program and when trying to installing the system reports.
"This program is only alowed for instalation on Lenovo computers"
I have a thinkpad X41 with windows 7, everything else works, shop including graphics, acces conection, pwrmanager. I downloaded the installation from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS030464 .
What MEASURE wrong?

The X41 is a nice PC, I used to own an X41T and I loved it. That being said, it's very old and uses even older HDD technology. As such, your best bet is to find an adapter and get an mSATA SSD for it. You would be better served in this by asking your question in the appropriate sub-forum of this site. The guys in that area have a lot more expertise than I do.
