Noisy fan after booting Linux

I have a strange problem with my T420. I booted BackTrack Linux a few times and my fan is very noisy ever since. My guess is that the Linux must have somehow change the fan settings. Any ideas?

Run "sensors" to check the temperatures. Usually the discrete video card gets stuck on and heats things up. Easiest way is to disable it in the bios. The other way is
bumblee which I have installed to use the hybrid graphics properly.

I use Windows, the Linux was just a bad expriment, I have 4178-BSG with only inegrated Intel video, so the problem cannot be the discrete graphics. According to Speedfan the temperature is only about 50C and the fan spins at full.

Interesting. I have a T420 (see sig below) and run linux exclusively along with many VM's and haven't encountered issues with fan speed up. This thread might have some helpful information for you:

Curious as to how you booted BackTrack linux? Did you boot from a Live CD to try it out or did you install something like WUBI (which would install linux "under" windows and partition the drive) and then install backtrack? That might give a better idea what may have happened.

I booted a Live CD from an USB flash drive
