Anyone ever custom paint a ThinkPad?

I was thinking about completely disassembling and custom painting one of my ThinkPads to see how it goes. I would be painting only the outer case: LCD bezel, LCD back, bottom cover, top cover, memory door, hard drive door. I would not be painting the keyboard, hinges, battery release switch, and ultrabay eject switch. I'm still undecided on the battery. I found replacement ThinkPad emblems on eBay, so I can just peel the old ones off. I am still wondering how I would do the grills covering the speakers, I may just tape them off to keep them black. I would probably go ahead and replace the rubber feet and the rubber stoppers above the LCD.
I imagine that the T-series would need to be sanded down first to get rid of the rubbery stuff. If I were to choose my R-series, I would probably sand it down anyway. As far as a top coat, I would like something Matte rather than glossy.
Any tips from someone that has done it before? Any ideas? Rattle cans? Paint Sprayer with my air compressor? Air brush?
