I don't have an iMac, so never had the opportunity to try such a thing. But, I figured Google would know how, and so here is the first response:

I did google something like this... just not sure what a mini display port is and what kind of connection that have to be in both ends...
is it a normal avi or monitor connection in the one end and a apple mini port connection in the other end...?
does such kind of cable exist?

Here is a link about the kind of cable needed:
http://www.cultofmac.com/20176/using-im ... ble/20176/
Apparently your T420 has a display port connection... so maybe the cable is all you will need.

the first link appears to be a try and it did not work. He write that he will come back, but never did..
There are some comments underneed and as I understand nobody can get it work.
one use remote desktop from imac to laptop, so maybe that a solution,
I can understand on other comments that maybe there laptop are to old to send the right signal to imac.
Or have you read some solution in the link that i maybe don't understand?
My english sometimes not good when I have to understand tech. stuff

Sorry...no...I don't see any solution that works in those sites either. I think you are understanding them correctly.
