T410 blank/black screen at startup

#1 Post by rwmannco » Fri Nov 02, 2012 11:17 pm

After charging the battery with a power brick attached to a backup power 120V generator set (due to Hurricane Sandy) ... on the T410 at startup, onn battery or on mains power (power is back), I get brief flash of thinklight, caps light, fan activity, green backlight on power button, but no boot and no backlight (or a black/blank screen. When I power down, I get the green LED on the fingerprint wiper (which is not used). Any ideas? Thanks.

First I would attempt to start your ThinkPad with only the A/C adapter.

Then if that fails I would try the static discharge procedure.

Remove A/C adapter and battery.

Press and hold the power button for a few seconds. Repeat this 10 times.

On the last press hold it for 30 seconds.

Reattach A/C adapter and attempt to turn on your ThinkPad.

A/C only and static procedure yielded no joy.

After a full battery charge on mains power the machine initially booted to the desktop, but when removed from mains power it quickly went to black screen mode and once again would not boot on mains power.

Suggests a failed/bricked battery or battery driver, perhaps? Or an intermittent backlight/inverter?

For the record, this turned out to be a fried 2Gb stick of RAM. R&R'd and works fine once again.
