T500 (2082-5XU) and Windows 8

I apologize in advance if this has already been discussed elsewhere. Unfortunately, it appears to be impossible to search for "Windows 8" as a term as the forum's search engine ignores search terms less than x number of characters and doesn't appear to allow for quoting search term combinations.

The reason I'm posting is I'm curious to know if others have tried upgrading to Windows 8 on a system that Lenovo officially does not support. From what I could tell, Lenovo is only support Windows 8 on T510s and newer models. I'm currently running Windows 7 Enterprise on a T500 (2082-5XU) and have been contemplating upgrading to Windows 8 for research purposes. I'm curious to know, if I went ahead with this, if I would be better running with the generic drivers included with Windows 8 or if I could manually install Lenovo's Windows 7 drivers and applications under Windows 8 without any issue.

I'm hoping someone here has done similar and can offer some insight and advice.

Also, if there is an existing topic that's more appropriate (or has tips on searching), I'd appreciate a pointer!

I use Windows 8 on my W500 (basically same as T500), works with no trouble.

Did you just go with the generic MS-provided drivers or did you install Win7 drivers from Lenovo?

Well, the operation system itself finds close to all the necessary drivers. The only one I installed myself, was the graphics driver.

Hey how did you install the graphic driver for V5700 on win 8? it doesn't seem to work for me. I use displayport to connect another screen and I have to get back to win 7 because without v5700 driver for win 8 the port is not working...

Hi there, I've got basically the brother of T500, a T400. I've already installed "Pro" version of 64bit Windows 8 but I've noticed that my battery time dropped from 3-4hours (Windows 7) to about 2:00 - 2:15 (Windows 8 ). Because Lenovo doesn't support T400/T500s for use with Windows 8, I think that power management driver isn't working correctly. I've tried Power Management driver designed for 64bit Windows 7. Anybody have the same experience?
