Several of us had a successful collaboration on this topic, which resulted in modified instructions, which appear at the end of this thread. This was done on a W500, with the procedure verified by another user. I think it will work identically with the T400/500.

Scroll to the bottom of this thread for the edited instructions:

I have a post in that thread regarding the T400 and my success with getting the switchable graphics to work.

My T400 is still running W8 fine :)

Readers should take note of emeraldgirl08's note:

"EDIT: forgot to add that when you get your switchable options back make sure you go into Intel Graphics Control Panel and proceed to Power>> Power Features>> choose 'on battery' >> and uncheck the 'Display Power Saving Technology.' The problem with that setting is it will cause undesirable color and contrast oddities at various times when using your T400. There are multiple threads asking about the same symptoms with undesirable video effects and almost all of them were solved by unchecking the 'Display Power Saving Technology' option in the Intel Graphics Control Panel."

Emeraldgirl, you live in a beautiful location.

Thank you precip9 :)

Over the years I have been somewhat of a mover. I have lived near your part of the east coast over the summer. Lived in Chitown for awhile. Texas. Colorado. New Mexico. I may get a short stint for school in California this summer so I will be moving about again. I do not mind. I love exploring what is out there and honing my participatory-observational skills :)

I am sure your part of the country is equally as beautiful as well!
