Thinkpad T520 predictive clicking

#1 Post by FunkyRes » Wed Nov 28, 2012 11:20 am

How the hell do i turn it off?
Trackpad is disabled (hate it) - I only use eraser head and the mouse buttons.

The thinkpad thinks I'm too stupid to know how to click and decides to click for me at arbitrary points in time. Doesn't happen with external mouse, only the thinkpad mouse. Sometimes it happens at the worst possible time.

Happens to my mother as well on her thinkpad, so it must be a "feature" that obviously wasn't field tested, rather than a defect, but I have been through the control panels time and time again and I don't see where it can be disabled. If I don't figure it out, this is the last thinkpad I will ever own because this crap has cost me time on so many occasions.

Sorry for the rant, it just really has been awful this morning while trying to do photoshop work away from home with dead travel external mouse.

Anyone know how to turn it off?

I have never heard of this feature. Usually disabling "Tapping" fixes all problems associated with inadvertent clicks. However, if you have the touchpad disabled, then that shouldn't be an issue. ThinkPad's aren't known for thinking users are too stupid to do the clicking on their own. Almost sounds like a defect or broken buttons to me.

I also only install ThinkPad UltraNav Driver and uninstall ThinkPad UltraNav Utility. Maybe that would help.

I had the above happen on a Thinkpad T500 at work, one of the other members of my team did as well. A keyboard swap fixed the issue in both cases, so if the software recommendation doesn't help, try to swap the keyboard.

Thanks, the T410 I just aquired doesn't do it, so I probably will try keyboard swap.
T520 is still under warranty, but I'm not sure it is worth sending it in. I'll probably just live with it a bit longer (90% of time it is docked) and then swap it when I'm bored next.
