Hi!

i'm trying to connect my Lenovo thinkpad T42 to a flat screen TV that has HD.

I was told that i need to purchase 2 adapters, one that connects to the TV's RCA ports (http://www.startech.com/Cables/Audio-Vi ... D15CPNTMM3) and one that connects to the HDMI port (http://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/V ... VGAHD2HDMI).

I purchased the two adapters that I linked.

After pressing F7, I can see the image very unclear with the RCA port, but when I connect the HDMI adapter it turns black.

what am i doing wrong...? any help appreciated.

thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Why the two adapters?

If your TV has component inputs...then the breakout cable is the one to use, "if" the ATI driver can provide a component signal to the VGA port. I'm not sure that it can.

If your TV only has HDMI, then the second adapter is the one to use. With it you will likely have to set the VGA output resolution to a HDTV compatible timing and resolution before it will display on the TV. And very likely the TV will have to be connect and turned on before you boot the computer so it can be detected by the display driver.

thanks! i'll try that.

just for reference, the reason i purchased two adapters is to convert the video from analog to digital (HDMI).

"VGA output resolution to a HDTV compatible timing and resolution"
^is that in Display Properties > Display > Advanced ?

thank you.

Does the TV not have VGA? Almost all HDTVs have a VGA input. If so, that would be the best method.

If not, then use the VGA2HDMI converter with a standard VGA cable and standard HDMI cable. Make sure the selector switch on it is PCRGBHV.
