Any reason for rubber rails when using SSD?

I've replaced the hard disk in my T420s with an SSD, and it's a very tight fit with the rubber rails around the edges of the hard drive caddy. With an SSD, is there any reason to leave the rubber rails on? Presumably they're only useful for a platter-style disk. (Also, I assume there's no reason to leave on the shock-protection system.)

I don't use the rails when the fit is tight and I always turn off the APS.

My $0.02 only...
