T410 VS T61 driver detection in Win 7

I recently just installed a fresh copy of win 7 Pro on a T410 and a T61 and noticed different results for the two machines using the same disc and updates.

The T61 automatically installed all the drivers, enough to get online and download Thinkvantage updates.

The T410 had no drivers detected or installed and had to search for the initial wifi driver to connect for the rest of the updates.

Even with no Thinvantage updates, the T61 it is fully detected and has all its drivers updated automatically. Only thing missing is on screen display.

After installing the wifi driver on the T410, and fully updated win 7, no drivers were updated or installed automatically by Win 7 and everything was done manually or with Thinkvantage updates.

In short you can install win7 on a T61 and have everything functioning properly immediately after the install without any updates.

Anyone else notice this?

Not surprising. The T61 is older than T410 by 2-2.5 years. So Microsoft had more time to incorporate those drivers in the OS.

Agree, but I figured these T4xx models have also been around long enough for MS to update their online updates.

It was a pleasure to just install win7 and the machine is ready to go. Without any updates.

I need to test that "check for drivers online" feature in device manager. But didnt need to for t61, will test this out on my next install.

T410 with an SSD is an awesome machine though, got me crawling thru this forums archives again.
