Hi,
I have a T420 ( 4236QS0 )and wishes to install an USB 3.0 express card in order to fully utilize the external USB 3.0 storage.
Has any one tried out the CLiPtec USB 3.0 PCMCIA EXPRESS Card RZP460 (
http://www.cliptec.com/asia/product_red/rzp460.html )?
If you do, could you please share your experience with us on this express card. Is it compatible, reliable fast and does it consume battery heavily?
Thanks.
Regards / Joseph

Two days isn't much time to give for an answer, you know.
I'd say you're best bet is finding it on sites like newegg or amazon, and look at reviews there. Otherwise googling the device name/model along with "review" might find another forum with such a post.

All of these cards use the same few chipset (most use Renesas, some ASMedia or Fresco Logic). The chipset will dictate the performance. Compatibility should not be a problem.
I would only consider the cards that insert fully into the notebook, like
this AKE BC618D,
this AKE BC628 or
this AKE BC608.
Note that I am not recommending any particular seller on eBay, just linked to the first ones that came up on the search at reasonable prices. Some of them can also be purchased from Gmyle:

The flush ones you can just stick in and forget. The ones that stick out, like the Cliptec (or the Vantec that I also tried) are cumbersome and inconvenient.

True. Anything that protrudes is at risk of being snapped off, or doing damage to the slot it's in if impacted.
