X9100 in T400

Just finish installing a X9100 in a T400. Only took about 20 min and gave me a chance to clean everything out. HW Monitor reports idle temp of 37ish deg C and load temp (Prime 95) around 60ish. Pretty darn good I was expecting temps to be much higher under load but it's only been 20 min.

This T400 is becoming my favourite Thinkpad. It's not my daily runner/beater which is my hybrid T60T sxga+ screen in a T61T body. Doesn't have much original specs left (6473-PVU). Already got 1440x900 screen, 8 GB RAM and 240 GB SSD. Next upgrade will be a Ultimate N 6300. Got it from Canadiandude who in turn got it from ajkula66.

Who, in turn, got it from mpcook...

Anyways, you got me confused: the title says X9100, the text Q9100. Which one is it? If it's a Q, how did you get it to boot in the first place?

That's what I thought, but had to ask anyway. A machine from the *00 platform with a Quad would be a rather interesting setup. However, I'm fairly certain that it's not possible to get it going on any of them apart from obviously W700...

Regardless, now you own one viciously fast T400... :thumbs-UP:

The heatsink fits without any issue? Did you use paste or a thermal pad? Have you tried IntelBurnTest to make sure it's stable?

It's your typical CPU swap. Physically, on the outside, the chips are identical. I used Thermalright TIM as that's what I had left over. I'm an old overclocker so tinkering is something I love to do.....just for the sake of it.

I've heard of Intel Burn test but don't know it so I don't trust it. I do know Prime 95 and know it well enough to trust it. This CPU have been running Prime 95 from 7:30 pm - 1:00 am MDT last night, so as far as I'm concern I trust it. The highest temp I saw was 72 deg C which is surprising since the Tjunction on this CPU is 105. Idling now in the mid 30s. Wish I could OC in BIOS as I'm not a fan of software OCing. But....getting the most power from this was not the intent....that's what my desktops are for.

Did you undervolt the X9100? Could you, please, post the voltage range of the CPU: I am very interested in lowest voltage (i.e. under SuperLFM mode).

Who in turn got it from BobA, who got it from someone (don't know who).

No I did not undervolt it. I'm an avid OCer on the desktop side but can't be bothered with laptops. Not a big fan of software OCing/Under clocking/volting.
