Memory in T410

#1 Post by RRHODY » Fri Mar 29, 2013 8:02 am

Has anybody installed the 8GB module in the t410? I mean the single module in one slot.

By itself with no module in the other slot? I can't remember if that was tried or not. I do know for a fact that it will not work if there is another module in the second slot.

I tried the 8 GB in slot 0 and my T410 wouldn't boot, spent over 4 weeks trying to make it work. The memory controller won't accept 8 GB SODIMMS, only 2 and 4GB ones.

Thanks for the responses. There was some discussion of max RAM at 16GB, but it must have been for a different T4XX.

The T420 and beyond max out at 16 Gb, the only 1st Gen Processor to go above 8 GB was the Quad Core models and they were only available on the 15.6 Display models (T510, W510) and not on any T410 due to heat disapation.

I have a strange error on my T410 Running Windows 7. I recently got an addition 2 x 4GB memory sticks from Crucial (They recommended) CT2KIT51264BF1339J . We installed these booted up and got a Windows Hang during startup. Repeatable. We upgraded to latest BIOS for T410, no change. Did a windows memory check and it passed fine. Same thing Hang. According to Crucial Tech Support, I am using their High Density memory, they say that on certain mother boards for T410, HD memory causes this hang, and I need to order Low Density memory CT2KIT51264BF1339.

I am not sure I buy this explanation from Crucial.

We are wondering if this is something having to do with Windows 7, 2 x 4GB extended memory and T410 Bios. So we are going to installed the 8GB memory, install Windows 7 on a different Hard Drive, and see if this makes a difference.

Any suggestions?

When you swap the old memory back in to see it everything still works fine that way? Also try one of the 4GB sticks at a time. Something could still be wrong with one of them even if it passes the memory test.

Well, when I put back the old memory, it works perfectly. I am typing this note on this T410. When I put one stick at a time, interestingly, I get a blue screen of death and crash on boot, Doesn't matter if I put one in the Top side under the keyboard (which Lenovo says you are supposed to populate first), or the bottom side, same blue screen of death and crash on boot.
