Swapping bluray in a T400

#1 Post by skygodtj » Mon May 06, 2013 9:49 am

Searching thru old posts, I found the pn for the Ultraslim 9.5mm drives (43N3230). Searched eBay for other mfgr's, found a handful on eBay, http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=le ... 5&_sacat=0 for the combo's, nearly all from China, for a lil over $100, and several US sources are well over $250 for the burners, what else would I need to play Blu-ray movies? Is there a hardware decoder for the -400? Anyone recommend a specific player? I use WMP and PowerDVD for dvds.. My three 6474-AH5, 2.4Ghz, 8GB ram -400's, two have the Samsung(Dell) 128GB non-TRIM flashed SSD's, (that's this week's project), the third has the -830 256GB. Anyone have specific tips for these platforms to be able to do bluray?

Thanks, TJ

Software decoding should work fine.

I would agree that software decoding would work fine.

If you look at Lenovo's page for the drive you mentioned, they say that they used WinDVD back then for the T400. http://shop.lenovo.com/seind/se/en/item ... #techspecs

Media Player Classic from the k-lite codec pack should work great. VideoLAN VLC would be another good choice.

Thanks for the info.. After looking at costs and time (shipping from China), I think I'm going to go with ripping the movies on the desktop computer (MakeMKV & $70 drive) then format them into .mp4's with Handbrake. I can store more of them locally, and cheaper than buying a BD drive for each of the family's T400's ($100+ each). Thanks again..

I did forget abt MP Classic from KLite.. I actually have that because it provides better audio, louder volume than WMP.
