T400 lid crooked?

#1 Post by klazutin » Wed May 08, 2013 5:19 pm

Hello all,

Recently I've noticed the lid on my T400 doesn't close properly any more - the right side reaches the bottom a bit faster than the left side. Thus, the lid lock does not click in place - first the right lock comes in, but when I push the left side, the right lock comes out. I have to push both sides in and then manually slide the lock to the left in order for it to finally close.

I thought the problem was with hinges, but after I've replaced them just now it is still here. Has anyone seen anything like this? For now it seems like the whole laptop lid is somehow crooked though I find it hard to believe - it being magnesium and having LCD and all.

Any advice is most welcome. Thanks!

I would check for loose screws - the ones that hold the hinge to the base, and the ones that go through the lcd bezel, the frame and into the top cover. There are also 4 screws under the lcd bezel that hold the hinges and the cover together

Thanks for the suggestion. All the screws are very tight - that was the first thing I checked. I also thought that there might be some adjustment screws - i.e. those that shouldn't be tightened all the way - but it appears that I just have to tighten them all.

My screen bezel has some cracks at the bottom, so now the only idea I have is that it somehow affects the way the lid closes. I guess I'll have to replace the bezel because I really don't know where else to look. If someone has any ideas, it would me most appreciated.
