To which meaning of brittleness are you referring?

brit·tle
adjective
1. having hardness and rigidity but little tensile strength; breaking readily with a comparatively smooth fracture, as glass.
2. easily damaged or destroyed; fragile; frail: a brittle marriage.
3. lacking warmth, sensitivity, or compassion; aloof; self-centered: a self-possessed, cool, and rather brittle person.
4. having a sharp, tense quality: a brittle tone of voice.
5. unstable or impermanent; evanescent.

I doubt that Lenovo will give you an AC adapter whether your ThinkPad is in warranty or not. But you can find Lenovo Support Contact info here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/feedbac ... pport.page?

a used 90w OEM a/c adapter can be found on ebay real easy, this one appears to be the cheapest that I am seeing at the moment

To me buying an A/C adapter from somewhere else is much faster, easier and cheaper than calling Lenovo and getting one through them
