WWAN installation problems on T420 & T520

I'm trying to install an unlocked WWAN card on Thinkpad T420 and T520 laptops. I have tried, without success, two WWAN cards -- a Gobi3000 (PN 634400-001) and an Erissson F3607gw.

For the T420, after installing the card and booting the laptop, the T420 returned an error message that an invalid card was installed, and would not proceed with booting. This happened for both cards.

For the T520, the laptop successfully booted, but when I tried to install the appropriate WWAN driver (g1wae1ww.exe) I received an error message that "There is not a supported wireless WWAN card installed in this computer. This setup cannot continue." This happened for both cards.

What's going on? I've installed WWAN cards on other thinkpads, including a T520. Is this a bios problem?

Thanks for any assistance and you can provide.

Let's say it's a BIOS feature!
The only cards which will be accepted on those machines by their standard BIOS are Lenovo-branded Gobi 3000 and Lenovo-branded Ericsson F5521gw. Any other cards -- either different models ..or.. not-Lenovo-branded (even if correct model!) -- require a modified BIOS.
