T410 RTC Accuracy Test Failure

Hi Guys/Girls,

So tonight I choose to run the Lenovo ThinkVantage ToolBox Quick Hardware Check. I let the machine do it's thing and took a shower. When I came back, I reviewed the results and every test passed except for the last one, the RTC Accuracy Test, which is part of the system board test and it failed with the error code WSB01-WV2 . The other part of the test, the RTC Rollover Test passed. Now I know this might not help but something been going on with my USB. I wish I could remember the error message (next time I will write it down and mod the post) but it might be that something is not connected properly via the USB but the catch is I have nothing connected using the USB ports (I don't use the USB ports at all).

Any thoughts on what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
John

RTC = Real Time Clock

That part of the diagnostic is supposed to be checking the accuracy of the system clock. If the system clock is not running at spec, you could see problems in almost any part of the laptop. It could be something as minor (?) as not keeping the correct time (too fast or slow) or irritating as random blue screens. If the system is still under warranty, I'd send it in. If not, then you're probably looking at a motherboard swap.

edit: I'm assuming you're running the diagnostic from within Windows, yes? If so, what version of Windows are you running?

Hi rkawakami,

Thank you for responding. I am running the Hardware Check Program from Win7 Pro. The machine has 4 Gig of Ram. I have the report saved a HTML and it shows the error message along with the error code. I don't know how much a new logic board would cost. On top of that I am not sure if I could do the swap. I have the HWM and know of the online videos from Lenovo's site and I have taken apart laptops before (a Dell machine and a MacBook (the MacBook had some screws left over but it worked :) )). I might sell the machine for parts and get a replacement.

Thank you for your help rkawakami!

John

I would assume that the Windows version of the diagnostic takes into account any kind of possibility that whatever else is running under Windows will not affect the outcome of the test (e.g., a program using a heavy percentage of the available CPU cycles). My suggestion would be to run the DOS version of PC Doctor in order to double-check the result of the RTC accuracy test, however it's not going to be easy if you don't already have the program (6it106ww).

Hi Ray,

I just saw your first name in your signature, sorry for missing that before.

Thank you for the link concerning PC Doctor's history. I remember PC Doctor from a long time ago. I am going to do some research on how and where I can get the program. I am going to run the Hardware Check program with nothing running with it. I am not sure if I had Firefox open or closed, just remember walking away from it.

Thank you Ray for your help! I will let you know what I find out.

Talk to you soon,
John
