T420S broken top lid/LCD latch/hook

Hi guys,

I'm not exactly sure what the actual part is called but nn one of my ThinkPad T420s notebooks the two 'hooks' on the top lid are broken so when I shut the lid it doesn't 'lock' or stay closed. I doubt i have to replace the entire LCD and have found replacements for older thinkpads but cant find the model number for the part I need for the t420s.. I even checked Lenovos hardware PDF and no dice.

Could someone please point me to the right part number? I need both the LEFT and RIGHT latch since both are broken.

After doing more research I found 04W1607 but it doesn't seem to be a specific part. its listed under lcd misc. parts... do I need to order all of these parts just for the hooks? is this even the right part number

my records say you need part/FRU # 04W1674, which is a new back/rear lid, or panel

I think your part number you found is for a T420 instead of a T420s. The LCD miscellaneous parts kit for the T420s is 04W1695. Just so you know, the HMM is the absolute best source for information. It will not drill down to parts in a kit, but at least you know you are getting the right kit if you do go that route.

What is wrong with the latch? Are the hooks physically broken or is it the slider isn't moving over far enough?

does that kit give you the latches? I ask because the latches are already part of the rear lid/panel

Perhaps you can order it with the lid or separately as a kit? According to these pictures of this ebay auction, I would say yes, the latches do come in the kit. You can't see them in the first picture, but if you scroll down in the auction description and look at the second picture, they are there. http://www.ebay.com/itm/120832997549

ok, confirmed they are part of the kit.

For $45 bucks though -ouch!!

A quick check for rear lids and I'm seeing this that would IMO would be much easier to install (granted if nothing else is wrong and you just replace the lid completely, if not then transplant the latches)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it. So, in other words I would have to purchase the whole kit? ...

The hooks are physically broken.. however the latch on the bottom panel works fine without any problems. So technically all I'd need to do is replace the two plastic hooks.

Another thing I was looking for is the BACK rubber foot for a T420s.. I have 3 of them but am missing 1. Could you guys kindly help me find the part number for this or let me know where I can just purchase the single foot? Easy Wind, I sent you a PM regarding this as I saw that you were able to help someone else with getting this specific part.

quite honestly, I think it is MUCH easier to replace the whole rear lid versus replacing out just the latches. You will see that when you get there. Don't say you weren't warned.

I'm out of extra rubber feet at the moment so I can't help there. But this thread will have your answers on part numbers etc
