T400 and OCZ Agility 3 - error 2100

#1 Post by kleung21 » Tue Oct 15, 2013 7:19 pm

I see a thread on this in the T61 thread and on the official lenovo forums, they talk about firmware upgrades fixing the error 2100 message. However, there does not seem to be a fix for the OCZ at this time.

Looks like the complaints are about older generation OCZ ssd drives.

My situation

Working
=> Kingston hyperX 128gb ssd + T400

decided to swap a drive / downgrade

=> OCZ Agility 3 60gb + T400
=> results in either the drive being detected intermittently with bluescreen or with a reboot and a error 2100 showing up.
- the drive is recognized in bios but not by windows.

Agility 3 firmware & T400 firmware is updated to latest.

So... adding to the knowledge base

As of Oct 2013; the OCZ Agility 3 + T400 is still not stably compatible.

The Kingston HyperX drive is rock solid though.

The official forums speculate it might be a connector problem

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T61-and-pri ... d-p/153737

which i somewhat agree; but even with me holding the drive to the connector; it's unstable so with so many excellent choices out there; my warning here is that you should STILL avoid older generation OCZ ssd and the T400.

Looks like lenovo has fixed this error 2100 with a fair number of other models via firmware.

But still no comment on the ocz.

Personally, I don't believe that the connector has anything to do with the issue at hand. I have yet to see an "2100 error" and I've deployed more SSDs on this generation of ThinkPads (T61/400/500) than I'd care to remember. Crucial/Micron, Samsung, Intel - never an issue.

Not a single OCZ Agility 3, nor will I ever take chances with one.

Pre-SandForce OCZ drives are acceptable. The later ones I wouldn't put in any of my machines even if I got one for free.

My $0.02 only...

Can't see how it would be a physical connector that would cause an intermittent error only.

Also don't see why you think the 2100 error has been fixed by Firmware updates for other SSDs: firmware history readme you link to doesn't mention that error code. Don't believe that Intel and Samsung and Micron SSDs have previously all suffered from this error.

I think this is an example of why OCZ SSDs have a bad reputation and as you say, are best avoided.

Hi there,

as a follow-up for the knowledge base.

the ocz agility 3 does NOT work with the thinkpad x200 series either.

Makes sense as they are based upon the same chipset / motherboard design.

However, just to clarify, it still gives the error 2100 despite latest bios on both the thinkpad and ocz.

even worse, ocz is now bankrupt so support will probably end shortly.

Toshiba bought OCZ so I believe all shall be well with support and warranties...
