RAM help

#1 Post by rippeer » Thu Oct 24, 2013 1:17 pm

Hello.
My laptop is a T410.
I recently bought some Kingston 1600 ram. 2x4gb sticks.
They show up in the bios. Windows 7 begins to boot and then blue screens with a IRQ greater lesser error. If I put the 2x2gb it shipped with sticks back in everything is fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

P.S
According to HwInfo64 I have the lastest/newest BIOS.

P.S
I also reset the BIOS back to default settings.

My suggestion would be to obtain the latest version of memtest86+ from here: www.memtest.org/#downiso It's available as an .ISO disk image or an installer onto a USB flash drive. Install one ONE of the 4GB modules and boot the system with the diagnostic. Let it run so that it completes at least 3 total passes through the series of tests; guessing it will take about 40 minutes to an hour to do this. If there's no errors found, the screen will remain a blue background with white letters. If there are any errors detected, they are displayed in the lower half of the screen with a red background. Assuming the first module passes, move it to the other memory slot and repeat. If this second test passes, you will then have verified that this module AND both slots are good. Install the second 4GB module by itself and run the diagnostics again.

Could you provide the model number of Kingston RAM you bought? It's usually something like KTA-MB1066K2/8G or KVR16S11/4.

*Edit: just noticed this thread is a couple weeks old. OP has probably already decided on a route to take by now.
