Figured an upgrade from the T420

Take the Yoga 2, put it in stand mode, plug in the ThinkPad USB Keyboard with TrackPoint (55Y9003). The whole thing will be 4lb and less than 1.5" thick, the keyboard is practically the same size as the laptop making it easy to pack. You have the old keyboard and a 3200x1800 screen. 8GB is a little absymal and I am not happy about the lack of ports and docking -- but this is the first time I see any hope of upgrading my beloved T420.

Edit: if trick is deemed workable then we can even look at non-Lenovo laptops with keeping the keyboard. This thinning and touch screens, both of which I thought are pointless at the end might work out... I am even wondering whether just putting the keyboard on top of an ultrabook keyboard might work, say the Fujitsu Lifebook U904 or the upcoming Thinkpad X3.

If you wanted to use a system like that wouldn't a new version of the Helix with a QHD display & Haswell be better - just carry the tablet part + your USB keyboard around (have no info on any new Helix models, pure speculation)?

if you remove the base the Helix doesn't come with a convenient stand :) this does. Also, the screen is smaller.

Seems kind of awkward if you ask me. Why not the T440s? You'd get 1080 IPS, which is already too small for me, and you're going to learn the new keyboard at some point.
