T400 disable/remove fingerprint scanner & software

#1 Post by rickpaulos » Wed Nov 27, 2013 2:35 am

I'm trying to disable the fingerprint reader. XP sp3.

I uninstalled the fingerprint software so now windows keeps finding new hardware.
I disabled the fingerprint reader in the bios. Windows keeps finding new hardware.

I don't want to disable plug & play as I do use usb flash drives on this computer.

Can I unplug the fingerprint reader if I take the computer apart?

I reinstalled the fingerprint software but I get a 'finger print scanner not found error'.
So I uninstalled the software again. Windows keeps finding new hardware.

At this point I get errors no matter what I do. reader not found or hard ware found.

Remove the palm rest and turn it over.
Underneath you'll see a flat cable coming from the FPR to the touchpad.
Remove just that flat cable at one end (whichever end is easier for you).
Problem solved.
Alternative: buy a palm rest without FPR.

wow. that was easy.

Much quicker than the endless windows setting changes, reboot, etc.

The T400 is sure a lot easier to open up than my old T30.

thanks.
