Odd Problem and Solution for T400 HDD Upgade

#1 Post by TEFGAF » Sun Dec 22, 2013 3:33 pm

Recently upgraded small HDD in T400 to larger Hitachi 500GB drive using cloning software from Marcrium Reflect. The cloning appeared perfect (including the Lenovo recovery partition) with one exception, Windows Update wouldn't function. Got a red lcon and no response. Anyway, after looking at possible fixes that included huge changes in the Win 7 64 registry, I decided to look at Youtube for something simpler. Apparently, the problem, as you will see in the video on this link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFa-qBAmQiM), has to do with a glitch in the Intel chipset when one upgrades to larger HDDs. I searched the Lenovo site for the Intel file mentioned in the video, but ended up downloading it from the HP site. Since it appears to be a Intel branded driver, I assumed it might work with the T400 and IT DID. While this problem might be well known to many of you, I remain impressed by how easy the problem was solved with the installation of a simple driver from Intel and my kudos to Mr. Lloyd who found it.
