Thinkpad 410i Power On button NOT working

 to all Thinkpad Gurus ...

I have a strange problem with my Thinkpad 410i.

The Power On button doesn't glow after shutdown so I can't start it up
The Power On button doesn't respond when I try to shutdown the m/c , but it glows Green
The Finger Print scanner works but only when the m/c is connected to AC Power

So if I'm running on battery , there is absolutely no way I can power on. The only way to power it up is with the Finger Print Scanner. And that worries me.

FYI ... I have Windows XP , Ubuntu and CentOS multi-boot setup. I'm not sure if this has anything do with the Power On issue.

Any help please ...

Thank you

- Vijay

Hi Vijay,

The power button is not supposed to glow when the notebook is off, but it should turn the computer on (obviously).

Are you talking perhaps about standby mode?

Thanks for the response ....

Sorry my bad , the Power On button does NOT glow after shutdown. And I'm not on Standby.

To put it simply , after shutdown I can't power it up with the button. I always have to connect AC power , tap the finger print scanner ... and the beast comes to life  . There are times , like a System Freeze , when I have to pull out the battery to shut it down. Almost feels like stopping a Hummer by cutting the fuel pipe.

Advice please ...

- Vijay

It may be that the button is broken. I would try a different keyboard
