T400 issues 6474-11U

#1 Post by Tsunade » Thu Mar 13, 2014 4:36 pm

Hey all,

So I decided to scrap the T61 fiasco and bought a used T400 off of Ebay only needing a hard drive. Installed the SSD, loaded Windows. Noticed upon reboot it takes forever to load from BIOS to whatever was next (Boot, F12, BIOS, etc). Sometimes it just sits at a black screen after POST, and won't ever go anywhere. I flashed it to 3.24 BIOS, didn't really make a difference. Sometimes it will sit with a blinking cursor and after like 1 minute it will boot. I'm going to assume there is something wrong with this T400, I'm about to test the RAM individually, but does this sound like a motherboard issue?

Does your T400 have the turbo memory chip installed? If it does try removing it and rebooting. If not then have you gone through BIOS settings and turned off any settings that might contribute to the longer boot time?

Check the USB ports for damage as well...

There might be something causing a short on the motherboard, see if there is any debris inside.
I had this problem with an A31, but it went away for some odd reason.

As ajkula said, I had a T500 w/ a broken USB, the 4 "fingers" were in contact with each other and the metal USB housing where it wouldn't of boot.

Yup first thing I checked were broken USB ports but I don't see any of that. I'm headed off to Jersey for today but I will test it later tonight.
