T400 2764 factory restore issues
T400 2764 factory restore issues
Hi,
I created Win 7 x64 recovery media on my T400. It cut 3 disks without any issues. I tried using the restore DVD's yesterday to set my T400 to factory defaults, since I had a Trojan or something else on my laptop. All went well till it asked me to insert DVD #2. It spun for a while and then gave a message "Inserted DVD is not the correct type. Please reinsert disk #2"......
I am at a loss of options. I had no luck using the restore image from the built in partition either. Just could not get to that option.
What would you suggest I do? Where would I go get DVD#2? Any other ways to restore from the restore partition. I have tried to hit F11 and the blue ThinkVantage button at boot up, but does not give me restore options.
TIA

Re: T400 2764 factory restore issues
If installing Windows 7 I do one of two things:
1) new install from the relevant Windows 7 ISO image (you can legally download from Microsoft digital river site).
2) if a reinstall, use a Windows 7 system backup of the machine if I have it.
I guess you don't have the Windows 7 backup but you could do a clean Windows install then put on whatever Lenovo utilities you want separately.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will follow it and get the machine back up. Thanks.
Re: T400 2764 factory restore issues
I am helping my cousin to restore his T400 actually.
He started the restore to factory state process and found that the 3rd disk is bad. He still does have his recovery partition still intact.
Question: What would he press/do to restore from the HDD recovery partition now that his computer is in lala land? Meaning, it does not have any intelligence left since the restore process wiped his C: drive.
Hate to have him pay $45 for a set of restore disks from Lenovo, when his recovery partition is still active. TIA.

Try and press the Thinkvantage button or else the F11 button from a cold boot.
If the recovery partition is still intact, you can work your way from there.
