T400 6474-EC3 sound problem

Hi!

I've got the aforementioned T400 6474-EC3 and sound suddenly stopped working a few months ago.
I installed Win7 (was using XP before) and it still doesn't work: I get the "No Audio Output device is installed" message.

I noticed some USB devices aren't recognized anymore (phone isn't, external hdd is) and the On-Screen Display of Fn-Commands crashes after startup.

A friend suggested the mainboard might be defect. What do you think?
Also, I'm kinda unable to find the exact motherboard for my model. Do the motherboard fit from any t400 to all other t400?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Your Type gives out

Code: Select all

P8600(2.4GHz), 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN upgradeable, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Ultranav, Secure chip, 9c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
if looked up on support.lenovo.com. You can either look up the HMM for your motherboard's FRU support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-70069 or search with your serial number (found either on a sticker on the underside of the laptop, or in BIOS) in either of the following pages

http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/po ... 2106475092
or
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... ookup.page

This will give you the exact motherboard FRU and then using the HMM you can check for compatibility with other FRUs

As for the sound issue I would suggest to boot up a Linux live distro and double check if it is a hardware or software issue.
