T510 docking options - can it use an X201 dock?
This probably sounds a bit ridiculous - particularly since the T510 is so much wider than the X201 - but can the T510 use the X201 dock? I'm not sure if anyone has ever asked this question before. The reason why I ask it is because I own both systems but only a dock for the X201. I usually bring my X201 when I go to work (which is where the dock resides) but my X201 is awaiting a new CPU fan so I will be bringing my T510 to work.
The reason why I want to use the dock is ergonomic; I don't like having to hunch over to read my laptop display. It doesn't matter if the T510 looks absurd in the X201 dock, as long as it works.
As best I can tell (before going to work in the morning) the dock I have is either FRU 44C0554 or 42X4963.
EDIT: I do see one person listing a dock 44C0554 on ebay and claiming it works with a T510, but we know how accurate some ebay listings are...

No. The Ultrabases for the X-series laptops are made to fit the body of their X-series model exactly. Nothing else that has different dimension can be placed on it.

That is pretty much what I expected, but I figured it was worth asking since 1. they use the same power supply 2. the dock connector on the underside of them is the same size 3. I have the X201 dock alreadydr_st wrote:No. The Ultrabases for the X-series laptops are made to fit the body of their X-series model exactly. Thank you

You could probably connect it through an extender of the docking connector. Results may be unpredictable - I don't know if anyone ever tried.

Is such an extender available somewhere? I did a quick google search and found people looking for such things but no indications of one available.dr_st wrote:You could probably connect it through an extender of the docking connector. Results may be unpredictable - I don't know if anyone ever tried.
When I got in to work - where I have the dock for my X201 - I found that indeed it is physically impossible. I would have to cut at the dock in order to line things up, and even then it wouldn't really sit right.

I haven't seen one for sale myself. I only assume they can exist, because the form factor (of the connector itself) is somewhat standard.
