My point was to test whether it's not software-related (that's why I asked for live bootable media)
Anyway best drives are always Liteons, sadly they don't make any laptop drives, however there's compatible part Panasonic UJ-862s for Lenovo Tx00/Wx00.
LG make great screens, but terrible drives - most of them are faulty by design.
Try this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271187267330

Hi
thanks for the input ..
the drive has worked twice but is intermittent and decides not to sometimes it also left a mark on the edge of the disk after burning I bought the drive from ebay and have since been refunded the drive you put in your post is the same drive I bought .. I will have to get another or may even get an external drive then I can use elsewhere as well
cheers

It's probably the best idea - get yourself HDD caddy instead of DVD drive - no idle consumption (DVD drive adds about 1.5W) and 2nd HDD really comes in handy. External DVD drive is probably the best solution - choice is wider, my recommendation would be LiteOn eTau108 slim drive
