T410 eSATA Port Multipliers supported?

#1 Post by tomchr » Wed Jul 16, 2014 8:02 am

Hi,

Here is a quick question. Is the eSATA port in the ThinkPad T410 Port multiplier supported?

Instead of using USB2 external hard drives I would like to use a 2-bay hard drive dock with an eSATA connection.

Welcome to the "we Google for you" hotline!

https://www.google.ca/search?complete=0 ... gws_rd=ssl

first result:

https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/S ... e_features

The T410 has a QS57/QM57 (can't remember which), wiki says xx5x yes. You win!

Hi chx1925,

I had tried googling it. However, the SATA hardware table you presented only tells so much...
For example, the W520 uses the QM67 chipset, and while the table lists the QM67 as Port Multiplier supported, the following post states otherwise:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-T ... d-p/440057

Another post states that although Intel's ICH SATA controllers actually can support port multipliers, Intel has removed support in the Windows drivers:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1738958

So, rather than relying on googling after chipset specs, I was hoping for some actual feedback from T410 users that have tried to use a hard drive dock with two drives connected to the eSATA port.
