Hi Everyone,

I understand that the processor for T410/510 series can be removed (apart from S and U Variants)

the basic system comes with 35W processor, i am interested in downgrading to an Ultra Low Voltage such as an "i7-680UM" which uses 18W. Can this be done?

No, the ULV CPU's are physically different from the normal socketed CPU's. The last ThinkPad that could be equipped with a ULV CPU was the T60. (U7600)

The T61 may be able to be equipped with a SU960 for example, but this requires a adapter onto which the CPU is soldered. Then there is the BIOS which may or may not recognize the CPU.

There is no reason to change your processor if you want a low voltage model. You can underclock and undervolt your processor at will to completely mimic the low voltage processors. But the plus side is that if you need more power you can always go back to the original settings.
