T400 to T61 "compatibility"?

#1 Post by jwege » Tue Jul 22, 2014 2:01 am

Hi all,

I have a T61 (1280x800, 7661-CTO) running XP and Win7 alternatively (two different boot-HDD's). I Have a second HDD installed in the Ultrabay with a caddy.

Now, I need more of the TP's, but the T61's are more expensive than the T400 and the T400 seem to have a higher performance (higher clock, my usage is simply "servers", no graphics, no usage as a user).

My question goes against the "compatibility" of the two machines:

- can I run a bootdisk of a T61 in a T400 (maybe with some "after-boot-changes"?
- what about the accu-pack?
- what about the ultrabay-caddies?
- what about the power supply?

Thanks so much in advance fro your help!

1) Bootdisk - yes
2) Battery - yes if the T61 is 14" wide (which I think it is based by the model number)
3) Ultrabay - no (T400 uses SATA ultrabay, T61 uses PATA)
4) Power supply - yes

Thanks 1000 times again.

So, will go for a T400 ... that the caddy does not work ... a shame as I have multiple ... but that's technology. It is astonishing yet that the other things work.

Sorry to raise another question in this thread:

Are u sure that the Ultrabay does not work? I just dismounted the second HDD from the T61 here and on the caddy it states "SERIAL ATA". Also, the internal HDD is one of type "S-ATA". So, hopefully the caddy will work in the T400 Ultrabay??

The HDD is SATA, the Ultrabay connector is PATA. The T61 HDD caddy is essentially a SATA-PATA bridge. It won't even physically fit in your T400.

The connectors on the outside of the ultrabay caddy will be different on the T400 vs the T61. The T61 caddy will not work in the T400. They are physically incompatible.
