PATA ultrabay

#1 Post by triniessence » Sat Jul 26, 2014 11:38 am

Is there an ultrabay for the T410 that will fit my T42 PATA HDD?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I'm not aware of one either. It would require a SATA-to-PATA bridge to be built into the adapter. While they exist for the opposite direction (PATA Ultrabay connector to SATA hard drive), I've not seen one that takes the SATA Ultrabay and changes it to a PATA hard drive. I wouldn't expect something like that to be a popular item but I've been wrong before :) .

My suggestion would be to get an external hard drive enclosure (for a PATA drive) and connect it via a USB port.

The Ultrabay SATA Adapter does use some small spacer about 3mm long. Under some circumstance it might be possible to fit an IDE->SATA Adapter in between (maybe also/only with modifiying the adapter..), but I wouldn't count on it.

Overall in my opinion it might also not be worth it to pay for that adapter, if it wasn't one of the latest generation and large-sized IDE drives and is still quite unused. Because then it might be better to just buy a newer SATA drive in the same size for cheap.
