T510 Operating System Question.

#1 Post by steveg1988 » Sun Aug 24, 2014 9:11 am

I bought one recently that is lacking an OS, i am not able to access it yet (i started a new career as an over the road driver) as it is at home right now, in a fedex box.

It has no OS sticker on the underside, and has a wiped hard drive. I am debating buying 7 Pro or 8.1 Pro, how well would this system run 8.1, and would there be any special tricks to getting it running perfect?

You don't have to buy anything if you choose W7 which would be my personal preference. There are legal downloads of that OS available and the machine already has a COA for it.

Hardware-wise, you should be OK with W8 as well.

The COA on these machines is under the battery, in the bay itself. You have to remove the battery to see it.

I'd check to make sure there indeed is not a COA. Most of the time eBay buyers will say this just to cover themselves against Microsoft.

As for OS, either Win 7 or 8 will work fine it's up to your own personal preference.

Yes.

Power Manager is NOT recommended under W8, and there are other utilities such as Hotkeys which may or may not work.
