Blue screen when start with HDD of other T400

Hi all,

I am having an odd problem:

Two T400, both with (at the moment) 2GB RAM, both have the same Type Number (6474-AH2). Difference is that one (1st) has 2x1GB, the other (2nd) has 1x2GB RAM chips. Both ordered from the same refurbisher. So, one should think "identical machines". The Series Number is also quite similar: L3-ARB3R 08/12 (1st), L3-AXK2T 08/12 (2nd).

Both run Win7 64 Home Premium.

Now, using the (installed) HDD of 1st in 2nd, produces blue screen ...

I wanted to clone the 1st's HDD to use in the 2nd (and correct the Windows-ID later, of course) to avoud the burden to install all the software and changes to the OS at the 2nd, reusing just the 1st one's HDD.

But when I start the second one with the HDD I installed and prepped in the 1st one, it ends with a blue screen. Going into "repair mode" does NOT help. It takes ages ending up with the message that the repair could not be successful ... starting it in the 1st one runs with no problems ...

I had numerous T & R Models in the past (T42, R52, T40 ... R31/R32) and it allways worked to re-use the installed HDD's, this time is the first time the blue screen appears.

Any hint what that could be? Any BIOS Setting? Maybe it has another grphics (should not at the same Type number???) ? But even if the graphics card should be diff, should not end up in a blue screen, correct?

I was curious and used the 2nd ones HDD in the 1st ones - same result Windows starts, but after the logo, the blue screen appears.

HELP????

It could be that the second computer uses a different motherboard that was replaced at some point. But what I think is more likely is that the second one has some other problem and it will not run stably no matter what hard drive you put in it. It could be overheating, have bad memory, etc.

This usually happens if the Config/SATA settings in BIOS are different. Change the value (AHCI or Compatibility) in the 2nd.
Eventually set them both to AHCI (with the proper drivers, if needed).

I have changed the BIOS of the 2nd from AHCI to Compatibility, but did not help. The blue screen appears even quicker ...

with the "old" settings, the blue screen (on both machines) shows

***stop: 0x0000007E (....)

*** lnvobus.sys - Address FFFFF88004C0FF7A base at ....

Error 7E normally indicates a wrong SATA setting in BIOS.

Can you still boot from it in the 1st machine?
If so, check for malware.

In another TP forum, I got the right hint:

the lnvobus.sys poins to the Ericsson WAN module. And that caused the blue screen.

When I dieinstalled (disabled was not sufficient) it and used the HDD in the other TP, it started with no blue screen, and I was able to use the TP normal. As i have no use for the WAN Adaptor, I removed it from the T400.

(Anyone in need for it?)

After the first few tests it looks like to trouble is solved after two days of investigation.

Thanks all for your hints and help!
