T400 replacement screen not working

Hi there, hoping someone will be able to help with the following issue I'm having replacing the screen of my Thinkpad...
I bought a used T400 earlier this year; the screen has some lines of dead pixels (but is still usable). As I've gotten a little annoyed with the less than perfect display I bought a replacement (also used, but apparently tested and in working order).
The replacement came already mounted in the lid attachment so I assumed it would be a case of removing the old lid, unplugging old cables, plugging in cables already attached to the new screen then reattaching the lid.
Status lights (e.g. power, hdd) and the backlight on the replacement work, however nothing is displayed at all (i.e. the screen is black) - reverted to the original screen and everything works (although dead pixels are still there).
------------
Original has T400 in the bottom right and max resolution of 1280x800.
Replacement also has T400 in the bottom right and was described as having max resolution of 1440x900. Also has a Bluetooth light not present on the original.
Not sure if the screens are CCFL/LED backlit.
------------
Have assumed there wouldn't be screen type related problems as I am using cables already fitted to the screen...
Is anyone able to point to anything I've overlooked, or does this sound like a faulty screen?
