T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pressin
hello, I am using T410 with Win& x64, more more than 2yrs. Last week the sound playback issue occured. This happens with video and audio playback of any file type. After 2-3 mins of normal playback sound cuts out, but resumes right after I press vol up or down. Then after 2-3 mins it cuts out again and so on.
I dont believe its a software -related error, since sound does not play even with Knoppix Live CD.
Latest drivers and BIOS updates are properly installed, windows sound test finishes succesfully.
I have read similar posts but all were related to software configuration. I have also replaced the speakers without change. Is there a known fix, or even a fix at all? Thanks

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
thanks for the reply.
its Conexant 20585 SmartAudio HD, 4.95.48.50. there is also another entry of Intel Digital Audio, or something like that.
I tried once to downgrade to 4.95.48.00 but something went wrong.
EDIT: Sound plays fine via headphones. I also tried to downgrade other drivers such as, chipset, wireless etc without change. In general the machine is smoth without errors in Event Viewer

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
What I meant is are you using the Lenovo supplied drivers or the ones that Windows automatically installs?

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
I use only Lenovo drivers
Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
They may be out of date.
Try uninstalling them via the device manager and tell it to remove the driver after you uninstall the device.
Reboot.
Run System Update and let it reload the driver. If Windows tries to load its own driver, interrupt and cancel that - then proceed with system update.
Have you run any diagnostics on the RAM to ensure that it's good?

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
Driver versions are the latest as I use Thinkvantage Sytem Update (apart from that they haven't been changed recently)
No I havent checked RAM. Do you mean during startup or with a tool such as memtest86?
Memory installed is 8gb from samsung.
More info on issue: The first time i use the sound subsystem no matter the source (youtube, winamp, zoomplayer etc) it plays fro 5-10mins. When I resume playback it lasts less that 2 mins. If I resume for the second time, playback lasts no more that 1 min.

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
I would use memtest and let it run through twice. It should take a few hours if not overnight.
Secondly, when monitoring your sound issue, keep task manager open and see if you see spikes of resource usage or heavy CPU.
You could also install ccleaner and let it clean the system, clean the registry and trim up your startup entries.

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
memtest was run for 1 hrs without errors
I noticed the sou nd resumes also after i press the mic mute button at the keyboard.
i seems to be a software issue after all....oever I havent found a solution. There are a lot of forum posts by users complaing about the same thing. I need a better advice than "re-install Windows" since all usuall suggestions dont work

Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
The mic settings might be the issue. Could you go into mic properties and disable it temporarily and see if that eliminates the sound problem? If it does then you could keep the mic disabled or you might adjust the settings of the mic.
Thinkpad X230 | Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 | mATX Haswell Desktop
Re: T410 - sound cuts out during playback, resumes after pre
I have noticed that before. Disabling mic didnt change anything, even after reboot
UPDATE 1: Formated and re-installed Win 7 64bit; latest drivers installed; BIOS downgraded, problem remains
